Le premier Chantier de recherche sur l’image imprimée et photographique a rassemblé en 2018 neuf artistes et deux artistes-commissaires. À la fin de cette résidence collective, Céline Huyghebaert et Camille Lamy ont invité tout le monde à prolonger la rencontre dans un livre.

Des thèmes communs étaient apparus dans l’atelier : disparition, effacement, invisibilité, négatif... Le livre s’est construit autour d’eux, sans les circonscrire à un mot unique. Au fil des pages, il propose différentes manifestations visuelles de l’apparition et de la disparition : empreintes d’une absence, altérations, écrans brisés... Un soin particulier est apporté à ce qui, dans sa forme même, évoque la dissolution : dissolution des couleurs, de l’ordre des pages, images remplacées par leur description ; brouillage aussi des noms, des légendes et d’une certaine hiérarchie dont on croit à tort avoir besoin pour travailler ensemble.

Elle est tirée en 150 exemplaires en risographie sur papier blanc, gris et noir. Une œuvre d’un·e des artistes du Chantier est insérée dans chaque exemplaire.

This work is the result of the first Chantier, a research project on the printed and photographic image (2018) gathering artists Gwenaël Bélanger, Mathilde Forest, Mathieu Grenier, Céline Huyghebaert, Janie Julien-Fort, Camille Lamy, Stéphanie Nuckle, Eliza Olkinitskaya, Étienne Tremblay-Tardif and artists-curators Caroline Boileau and Stéphane Gilot.

At the end of this collective residency, Céline Huyghebaert and Camille Lamy invited everyone to extend the experience in a book. Common themes had emerged in the studio: disappearance, erasure, negatives, invisibility... The book was built around these ideas, without limiting the theme to a single word. Through the pages, artists offer different images of appearance and disappearance: traces of absence, alterations, broken screens... Special attention is given to the form of the book, to evoke ideas of dissolution: of colors, of the sequence of pages, of images replaced by their textual description; but also blurring names, captions and a certain hierarchy we wrongly believe is needed in order to work collectively.

The publication was directed by Camille Lamy and Céline Huyghebaert. It is composed of images made by the artists, accompanied by texts written by Caroline Boileau, Stéphane Gilot, Camille Lamy and Céline Huyghebaert. It is printed in 150 copies in riso on white, gray and black paper. A print by one of the artists is inserted in each copy of the book.
